Mammaplasty augmentationThe breast augmentation causes a lot of emotion and it is one of the very few procedures, where the effects are visible almost right away, on the third day. The patients can enjoy the outstanding results of the procedure very fast (despite the swelling which is normal for this stage), and can be discharged from the Clinic quickly without any problems.
The breast augmentation is one of the most common plastic surgeries not only in our Clinic, but also worldwide - last year in USA this procedure was carried out in 600 000 of patients.
However, in Poland, especially in small towns, women often decide not to undergo this procedure, and realize own dreams, due to the fear of opinion of the closest surrounding. In such situations a very trivial comparison to the dentist visit comes in mind: do you have to keep the natural failure of a tooth for ever? Of course not! Each one of us wants to come back to the previous, original condition.
The decision concerning this procedure is usually very hard, despite the discomfort caused by small breasts. The patients who decide to undergo this procedure are usually guided by esthetics - originally uneven location of breasts, disproportion of size, small mammary gland. The most comon concern of women, who are planning the operation is the fear of pain. Meanwhile, 95% of patients, who decided to enlarge their breasts in our Clinic say, that pain and other inconveniences attributed to this procedure are way exaggerated. Moreover, all of our patients claim, that if they only knew about the mild conduct of the operation and tender care of the clinic before, they wouldn't hesitate to make this decision earlier. You can not erase those hears spent on inner dilemmas and thoughts...
Undergoing this kind of operation can have an extremely positive influence on the patients' psyche. Many of them feel more attractive, become more self-confident. Awareness of having new attributes of femininity can cause improvement of relationship with a partner, and can increase the quality of contacts with other people. Satisfaction resulting from effects of this procedure allows self-acceptance and gives new, optimistic point of view on life.
QualificationFor persons coming from distant parts of the country or from abroad, pre-procedure consultation, which qualifies for the procedure, can be performed on the day of planned operation. The doctor, who is going to perform the procedure will explain the entire operation, size of an implant, discuss the method, explain the differences between different types of implants and inform about the possible dangers.
Preparation for operationThe persons coming from very distant parts of the country and Europe should come the day before the planned operation, so they can take a rest after the trip. You are not allowed to eat or drink anything on the day of operation. Your stomach should be perfectly empty. The patient should reduce cigarette smoking at least 4 weeks before the planned operation. Pain killers with acetylsalicylic acid or medications which contain aspirin should be stopped at least 14 days before the operation, because they have influence on blood clotting. You need to tell your plastic surgeon about all of the medications that you take. All kinds of allergies are also very important for your medical history. In case of any kind of change of the date of operation, for example due to sickness, please inform the Clinic, so we can arrange another date for you.
Anesthesia and staying in the ClinicThe breast enlargement is performed in a general anesthesia. All of the necessary examinations are carried out in our Clinic on the day of operation. Only the patients who are more than 50 years old should get their EKG and mammography done before coming to the clinic. Thanks to the modern operation methods you will not have to stay in our Clinic more than 2-3days.
OperationThe shape and size of breasts, diameter of the nipple, volume of the prosthesis, type, preferences and expectations of the patient determine the skin incision for the implant.
We use the following techniques: 2-3 cm incision of the skin fold under the breast or incision of the border of areola and cut of the armpit. The implants are usually placed under the greater pectoral muscle. Depending on the chosen technique, the procedure usually last about 1-1,5 hours.
Post-operative proceduresAll of our patients receive special, well-fitted bras which have to be worn constantly for several weeks. It is very important to pay special attention to the reactions of own organism. Although there is no pain, or other symptoms of operation, you shouldn't physically overexert yourself. Reduction of activity and a lot of rest are recommended in order to allow fast healing and prevent displacement of the implant. You need to avoid gymnastics, any kind of sports, house works (ironing, window washing), intensive work of pectoral muscles or sleeping on your belly. The same refers to sun tanning, extensive sun exposition and use of sauna.
For the first three months you are recommended to massage your breasts intensively and use all kinds of creams and medications which reduce the scars. According to the recommendations of the plastic surgeon, you should remove the stitches after 14 days, and you can do it in any outpatients clinic or doctor's office chosen by your family practitioner. Each of our patients will receive more individual information concerning further procedures at the discharge from Clinic.
Risk and possible complicationsWomen with high family risk of breast cancer should consider the breast augmentation cautiously, because implants can change the result of mammography and make the diagnosis of malignant structures difficult. Besides, X-ray of mammary gland can cause creation of connective tissue areola around the prosthesis, so called capsule, which may cause breast hardening. It happens very rarely, and is corrected through operation. It doesn't usually influence the breast feeding. For implants filled with liquid, corrective operations are necessary after few years, because of the risk of liquid outflow (penetration of isotonic salt solution into the organism).
Just like for any other procedure, there is a risk of infection, bleeding, permanent tensions, creation of scars or haematomas. In case of any questions, ask our surgeon.
Despite of theoretical possibility of occurrence of complications, none of the above has ever happened in our Clinic.
